The Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University
of Akron invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor in the area of Biomechanics or Biomaterials with
an emphasis in Orthopaedics. Applicants for the position must
have an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or closely
related field. Successful candidates will be expected to develop
and maintain an independent research program and to contribute
to our B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. programs by teaching courses at
both the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising Master's
theses and Doctoral dissertations, and performing other academic

The department currently has six full-time faculty and
one Research Associate Professor with specializations in
cardiovascular
and skeletal biomechanics, clinical diagnostics, instrumentation
and drug and gene delivery. Enrollment consists of ~150 undergraduate
and over 30 graduate students with a consistently increasing
freshman class and a 1 year increase in the Student/Faculty
ratio of 23%. Three undergraduate curriculum ‘Tracks’ are
offered including Biomechanics, Instrumentation, Signals & Imaging,
and Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering, and all programs
are ABET accredited. The University of Akron is a state-assisted
